Summary

In April 1955, two military observers at Gander Air Base in Newfoundland reported a bright object moving erratically. They described an intense white light, similar to a magnesium flare, with no discernible noise. The object appeared for 60 to 90 seconds at an altitude of 5000 feet or less. Although several explanations such as balloons or aircraft were considered, there was not enough data to reach a definitive conclusion.

The air base was active and no unusual activity was recorded. No photos were taken and there were no physical traces. The report was prepared by a Canadian officer who did not doubt the observers' credibility. Like many cases from that era, this one was classified as insufficient for a definitive identification, leaving open the possibility of an unidentified phenomenon.
