🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1955, a U.S. Air Force pilot reported an unidentified object during a flight from Westover to Harmon. The sighting occurred around 08:00 and lasted five minutes. The pilot described a large, round object flashing white and blue light, behaving like a mass of burning gas. It was not the sun or another aircraft, and despite attempts to close the distance, the object remained out of reach. The phenomenon stayed visible throughout the flight, slowly ascending in the sky.
The official report marked the possibility that the event was astronomical, though other explanations were not ruled out. The pilot, identified as Lieutenant David Cleveland, transmitted the report to air control, and it was later passed to the 32nd Air Division. Despite the detailed description, the object could not be identified with certainty, and the case remains unsolved. This type of report was common during the Cold War, when the Air Force rigorously investigated any unidentified phenomenon.
