🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1955, a witness in Yonkers, New York, spotted a bright white object larger than any visible star. The object appeared suddenly and disappeared after 20 seconds, without making noise. It was moving southward, but its speed was unknown. Despite the brief sighting, the intense color and fade-out suggested the possibility of a jet aircraft with afterburners, such as the F-94 or F-36. No official investigation was authorized.
The file classifies the sighting as "possibly a balloon" or "possibly an aircraft," but no definitive conclusions were reached. The report notes that no sound was associated with the event and that the visual description did not allow for a clear identification. This case, though short, reflects the uncertainty surrounding many sightings of the time, before stricter protocols were established to investigate unidentified aerial phenomena.
