🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A 1955 report describes the observation of an object emitting an intermittent very bright light, traveling at an estimated speed of over 1000 miles per hour. The witness, an experienced naval officer, reported that the object produced no sound, except a thunder-like noise when first sighted. The object moved from the southwest towards the northeast, making a slight turn before disappearing. Despite the dark, starry sky, the object could not be visually identified, increasing uncertainty about its nature.
The official investigation concluded there was insufficient data to evaluate the phenomenon, and it was considered that it could have been a high-speed aircraft with flashing running lights. However, the lack of concrete data and the time elapsed between the observation and the official report led to no further investigation being authorized. This case reflects the difficulty authorities had in classifying unidentified aerial phenomena during the Cold War era.
