🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1955, a civilian in Englewood, Ohio, contacted military authorities after finding a strange rock in his garden. The rock was black with white and grayish spots, very porous, extremely hard, and had small holes, as if exposed to high temperatures. The report details that the witness believed the rock was of meteoric origin, but experts evaluated it as a slag formation, a common industrial material. Despite its unusual appearance, there was no evidence it was extraterrestrial or an unidentified aerial phenomenon.
The case was carefully documented, including a physical sample of the material and a detailed description of its appearance. The witness personally visited military offices with the rock, showing the interest of the time in any phenomenon that might seem anomalous. Although no similar findings or follow-up occurred, the case reflects how even common objects could be rigorously analyzed during the UFO hunt of the 1950s.
