🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1955, two pilots reported sightings of unidentified aerial objects near Minneapolis, Minnesota and Topeka, Kansas. A civilian pilot observed a bright green object turning red, with small fragments falling from it. Another sighting, reported by a military pilot, showed a similar object with a tail and a lunar-like appearance. Both events occurred within minutes of each other and were classified as possible meteors. Despite the differences in details, the official conclusion was that it was an astronomical phenomenon.
The observers described different trajectories: one from northeast to southwest and another heading in direction 190°. Although the observation times varied between three and forty seconds, both cases coincided in the description of a round, luminous object. Despite the lack of photographs or radar, aerial reports and weather data were recorded. Ultimately, the mystery was not investigated further than the official classification as meteors.
