UFO identified as plane in 1955

Summary

In June 1955, an observer in Glenavon, California, reported a reddish cigar-shaped object that made no sound. The sighting lasted 15 minutes and binoculars were used to observe it. Although initially considered a balloon or astronomical phenomenon, it was soon confirmed to be an aircraft. The person who identified the object, Lieutenant Guy Renfro, established radio contact with the plane, helping to resolve the uncertainty.

The official report, part of Project 10073, includes details such as the exact time of the sighting (21:13 hours) and the direction in which the object was moving. Despite fog and limited visibility of five miles, the aircraft was clearly identified. This case is an example of how UFO reports often turn out to be conventional objects once more data is gathered.
