Summary

An 18-year-old civilian at Camp Pon-Tok, Maryland, reported a stationary object in the sky on June 24, 1955. The object appeared white when still and turned red when moving, remaining fixed for one minute. Initially mistaken for a star, the observer noticed it grew in size and changed color, causing confusion. The official report classified it as possibly an aircraft, though no photos or radar data were collected.

Weather conditions were clear with 70-degree temperatures and variable winds. A U.S. Air Force pilot, 1st Lt Alfred J. Rickey, reviewed the data and suggested the object might be linked to an Air Force jet in the area. However, no conclusive evidence was found to determine if it was a natural phenomenon, a balloon, or an aircraft. The case was closed without a definitive explanation.
