🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1955, two California physicians on vacation in Madrid, Spain, reported observing an unidentified flying object. According to their account, they saw a perfectly round and solid object flying across the sky from west to east. The object maintained a straight course and appeared to accelerate as it passed over the city before disappearing over the horizon. It was estimated to be between 100 and 200 feet in diameter. The witnesses, initially skeptical, attempted to photograph the object, but no images were received. The source of the report, a physician with technical knowledge, described the object in detail and expressed surprise at not being able to identify it as a balloon, aircraft, or astronomical phenomenon.
The official investigation concluded there was insufficient data for a definitive evaluation, though possibilities such as a weather balloon or conventional aircraft were considered. The case was referred to another team for further analysis, but no clear resolution was reached. This report, part of U.S. Air Force archives, reflects the interest in UFO sightings during the 1950s.
