🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1955, a civilian observer in the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans reported a cylindrical, milky white object that appeared like a water droplet. The object remained stationary at approximately 5,000 feet altitude, with an estimated diameter of 25 feet. Although no photos were taken, investigators concluded it was likely a weather balloon. The witness's detailed description, including its shape and size, generated interest, but no conclusive evidence of an unidentified craft was found.
This case is part of a series of July 1955 sightings, where most objects were classified as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena. The lack of additional data and the remote location of the sighting made a more precise evaluation difficult. However, the witness's testimony, along with the clear visual description, remains a point of interest for UFO researchers.
