Summary

In July 1955, in Seattle, Washington, a Boeing employee and four witnesses observed three white objects resembling stars. The objects moved up and down and side to side for 30 minutes. Initially considered a possible astronomical phenomenon, investigators suggested they could be balloon clusters reflecting city lights. Sandpoint NAS often launched balloons that drifted into the area with favorable winds. The lack of photographs and precise data made a definitive evaluation difficult.

Later analyses did not reach a conclusive answer, but suggested an optical phenomenon was unlikely. The description of the objects and their behavior, along with the number of witnesses, generated interest, but no clear explanation emerged. The case was filed as possibly related to balloons, but other possibilities were not ruled out.
