Summary

In July 1955, in Pleasant View, Washington, one person and five additional witnesses observed two large, silver objects in the sky. The objects were visible for about 15 minutes and moved southwest. Although observers claimed they were balloons, wind data didn't clearly support that theory. However, two qualified balloon directors stated the objects were part of a project called "Moby Dick," leading investigators to conclude they were balloons. The description, duration, and alignment with observer reports shaped this conclusion.

The official report, part of Project 10073, includes ground observations and comments from military personnel. Despite weather data not fully aligning with the balloon theory, the connection to Moby Dick and witness statements gave weight to that conclusion. The case was reviewed by multiple military offices, including Wright-Patterson AFB and the Air Defense Command, but no photos or radar confirmed the presence of aircraft or unidentified objects. Ultimately, the objects were considered experimental balloons.
