🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1955, a witness in Roseville, California, observed a round and bright object resembling a basketball at arm's length. The object quickly ascended and then drifted away for about ten minutes. Although no photos were taken, the detailed testimony and the object's movement led investigators to conclude it was likely a balloon. The location and timing matched a recorded balloon launch in the area, reinforcing this hypothesis.
The official report classifies it as a ground visual observation, with no radar or photographs. Despite the long observation time, there was no ambiguity about the object's nature. The witness's description, along with weather data and the object's trajectory, clearly pointed to a balloon. This case is a classic example of how additional data and logic can resolve seemingly inexplicable mysteries.
