🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A witness in Sacramento, California, reported an egg-shaped, flat amber object that appeared in the south, moved southwest, and disappeared overhead. The observer saw it through binoculars for five seconds, and while initially mysterious, investigators suggested it could be the exhaust of a jet aircraft. The object's shape and color were explained as possible effects of viewing jet exhaust gases at an angle. The report didn't include photos but noted that the sighting duration matched the time a jet would take to cover that distance. Despite the brief event, it was considered a clear and detailed observation.
The object's description and trajectory initially caused some confusion, but the report pointed to a conventional explanation. The "egg-shaped" and flat appearance could be due to the perspective from which the jet's exhaust was viewed. Although the possibility of an unidentified object wasn't completely ruled out, the analysis concluded it was "possibly" a normal aerial phenomenon. This kind of report was common during the Cold War era, when any object in the sky generated suspicion and thorough analysis.
