🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1955, a witness in Bellingham, Washington, reported seeing a white, round object the size of a pinhead slowly moving in a 30-degree arc across the Big Dipper constellation. The observer, Charles Saunders, described how the light intensified when the object moved and dimmed when it stopped, suggesting unusual behavior. The sighting lasted 15 minutes under clear weather conditions, increasing the credibility of the account. Despite the detailed report, authorities could not identify the object as a balloon, aircraft, or astronomical phenomenon, leaving the case unresolved.
The report was investigated by air intelligence personnel and forwarded to the Air Intelligence headquarters as "unknown." There was no evidence that the object was a balloon launched from nearby facilities, and no radar or other observers reported the event. The inability to rule out astronomical phenomena, combined with a lack of additional data, left the case in the category of the unexplained. This classified document, with legal restrictions, reflects the rigorous methodology of Project 10073, yet failed to solve the mystery of the object seen in the night sky.
