In October 1955, an 18-year-old woman in Ellensburg, Washington, observed two round, transparent objects connected by a red band. The objects appeared in the south at an altitude of 60 degrees and disappeared in the north, maintaining the same height. The sighting lasted four minutes and was made using binoculars of unspecified power. The witness described the objects as the size of a football held at arm's length. Despite the detailed description, investigators concluded it could be a balloon, as the behavior and appearance matched that explanation.
The official report includes weather data and wind routes suggesting favorable conditions for balloon movement at high altitudes. Although no photos or radar were used, the witness's testimony, along with the straight path and gradual disappearance of the objects, supports the possibility of a balloon. However, the transparency and red band remain aspects that do not fully align with typical balloons of the time, keeping some mystery around the case.
