🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1955, a witness in Battle Creek, Michigan, observed a red object resembling the end of a pencil held at arm's length. The object appeared in the south at an elevation of 45 degrees and remained stationary for three minutes before gradually fading out. The observer did not take photos, but the report suggested it could be the exhaust of a jet aircraft. This hypothesis was based on the red color and the gradual disappearance, which could align with a luminous emission from such a source.
The official report considered the object "possibly" an aircraft, though other explanations were not ruled out. Weather conditions were favorable, with excellent visibility and partly cloudy skies. Despite the lack of additional data, such as radar or multiple witnesses, the case was recorded and shared with several air intelligence units. These types of reports, while inconclusive, were part of a broader effort to understand unidentified aerial phenomena during the Cold War.
