🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1955, an observer in Utica, New York, described a luminous object that remained visible for 40 minutes. Round and silent, it resembled a star and stayed stationary in the sky. Over the observation period, the object gradually turned a brilliant red before disappearing. The report concluded it was likely an astronomical object, such as a star or planet. Despite the unusual duration of the sighting, no photos were taken and radar wasn't used, limiting the possibility of a more precise evaluation.
The observer, a 28-year-old cost estimator, detailed the object's apparent movement toward the southwest. His partner also confirmed the description, though she didn't see the color change. Due to the object's brightness and red transformation, investigators considered the possibility of a meteor or fireball, though its duration was unusual. The official report found no conclusive evidence of an unidentified object, but highlighted the intriguing nature of the sighting.
