🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1956, a radar at Wheelus Air Base in Morocco detected an unidentified object. The radar tracked it for 12 minutes, recording changes in direction and speed. Initially traveling at 75 knots, it later reduced to 50 after about 110 miles. Although balloon and astronomical explanations were considered, the data suggested a light aircraft. However, the calculated speed seemed higher than expected, creating some uncertainty. There were no photos or visual sightings, so the evaluation was based solely on radar data.
The attached images show the radar records, with traces indicating the object's movement. Although the report concluded it was an aircraft, the flight pattern and speed measurement imprecision left room for doubt. This case, like many from the era, reflects the difficulty of interpreting limited data and the need for more rigorous evaluation in later investigations.
