In January 1956, Afghanistan witnessed multiple sightings of unidentified flying objects. According to a declassified report, flying saucers were reported in various locations, including Behsud, Kotal Mullah Yakoub, Shala, and Dur Baba. One object even reportedly landed near Takala, between Khanabad and Baghlan, and Afghans attempted to transport it to Kabul. The report describes the object as having a 15-meter circumference, a metallic structure, and small thick glass windows. Although an aerial verification was attempted, no follow-up was confirmed. Local and U.S. authorities collaborated in assessing the case, but no clear conclusion was reached.
