Summary

In April 1956, a witness in Inman, South Carolina reported seeing a round object, fifty times brighter and larger than a star, with a light blue and hazy appearance. The sighting occurred while traveling in a car and lasted about ten minutes. Another report from Spartanburg confirmed the observation. Although the object was seen through a car windshield, the weather conditions were ideal: clear sky and unlimited visibility except for darkness. The evaluation suggested it could be Jupiter or Sirius, both bright stars in the southwest at the time. However, the case was not classified as a balloon or conventional aircraft, making it an intriguing account from that era.

The most plausible hypothesis, given the location and timing of the sighting, points to an astronomical identification. However, the description of the object as "very hazy" and "very bright" adds an element of mystery. Although no photos were taken and radar was not used, the official report suggests that it cannot be ruled out that the witness may have mistaken a star for an unidentified aerial phenomenon. This case is part of the extensive database of Project 10073, which collected UFO sightings for analysis.
