🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A round object, three inches in diameter and silver-green in color was observed in Rochester, Indiana, on May 7, 1956. The sole witness, a housewife, saw it with binoculars during dusk. A single F-55D fighter jet was scrambled, but the object was ultimately identified as a fixed beacon. Although initially considered a balloon, aircraft, or astronomical phenomenon, the lack of movement and stable light led to this conclusion.
The report, under Project 10073, includes no photos or radar data and is limited to a visual description. The witness reported no movement, supporting the beacon theory. Despite considering other explanations, the official report closes the case without ambiguity, though it notes the impossibility of completely ruling out an unconventional phenomenon.
