🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1956, a crew aboard a Norwegian ship reported a mysterious object near the Russian coast in the White Sea. The object, described as a flying saucer, hovered for a moment before suddenly accelerating and disappearing from the sky. Witnesses claimed it was twice the size of a commercial airliner and moved at incredible speed, like lightning. Despite the lack of photographs and the crew's certainty that it was not a balloon or conventional aircraft, investigators concluded there was insufficient data for a definitive evaluation. The area was known for weather balloon launches, adding ambiguity to the report.
The classified report was reviewed by USAF officers and Norwegian authorities, who could not confirm the sighting's authenticity. Despite the detailed description and the crew's conviction, the final document noted that misidentification could not be ruled out. This case, like many others from the Cold War era, reflects the confusion and mystery surrounding UFO reports at a time when any unexplained phenomenon was treated with utmost caution.
