In June 1956, a civilian in Petersburg, Indiana, reported a silent object moving from south to north at around 500 feet. He described it as resembling a blowtorch. Another report mentioned an object that looked like a meteor or a burning aircraft at an altitude of 10,000 to 12,000 feet. Although a low-flying aircraft was reported near an abandoned airstrip, officials concluded the sighting was of an astronomical meteor.
