🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1956, two military officers observed a circular, silver object while flying over Birmingham, Alabama. The object, approximately 40 to 50 feet in diameter and 6 to 8 feet thick, was moving south at low altitude. Although the pilots attempted to follow it, the object disappeared quickly. No photos were taken and no unusual sounds were reported.
The Air Force concluded it was likely a balloon, though no official confirmation was made. The witnesses described ideal weather conditions with 10-mile visibility. Despite one officer carrying a camera, no attempt was made to photograph the object, as it was initially mistaken for an aircraft. The report was classified and took years to be reviewed, complicating further investigation.
