Summary

In June 1956, a witness in Cornwall, New York, reported seeing seven round white objects, the size of a dime at arm's length. The objects appeared one after another at regular intervals for two minutes. Although it might initially seem unexplained, the report suggests these objects were actually five B-47 bombers on a photo mission. Scattered high clouds in the sky created the illusion of more than five aircraft. The observer, along with three other students, saw the objects from a rooftop under a clear sky with bright stars.

The official report concluded the objects were aircraft, not astronomical phenomena or balloons. The responsible officer, 1st Lt. Thomas S. McKeon, explained that the cirrus clouds in the area partially obscured the planes, creating the perception of intervals between sightings. The B-47s were flying at 35,000 feet and were about 10 miles apart, which could also explain the appearance of multiple objects. This case is a classic example of how atmospheric conditions and perspective can generate sightings that initially appear unexplainable.
