🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1956, a woman in Terre Haute, Indiana, observed a black object the size of a medicine ball. She watched it for three minutes through binoculars, describing movement toward the northeast at low altitude. Although she took photos, no results were obtained. The local air base concluded it was likely a weather balloon, as it matched weather conditions and wind patterns. The official investigation found no evidence for a more mysterious explanation.
The object's description and trajectory generated some attention, but the data wasn't conclusive. The repeated mention of a black balloon in the investigators' notes suggests a search for conventional explanations. Despite the brief sighting, the case was documented in detail, including weather and wind direction. It was ultimately filed as a possible balloon, with no further investigations.
