🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1956, two witnesses in Shawnee, Kansas, reported the sighting of unidentified flying objects. Both objects appeared round at the front with a tapered back, resembling toy balloons. They were observed for about 1½ and 2½ to 3 minutes, respectively, and emitted visible flame. The second object displayed a blinking light similar to an aircraft. Although initially intriguing, investigators concluded they were likely high-flying jets or commercial aircraft. The lack of sound and unusual appearance were attributed to extreme altitude.
The official report assessed there was no conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial phenomena. It noted the possibility that the objects were aircraft, as the area had heavy air traffic. Additionally, the witnesses were two housewives without technical training, which doesn't invalidate their testimony but suggests they lacked experience in aerial identification. Ultimately, the most reasonable explanation was that the objects were aircraft flying at high altitude, justifying their strange appearance and lack of noise.
