🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1956, a witness in Stanton, Nebraska, reported a round yellow object the size of a baseball held at arm's length. The object moved like a light on a balloon, bobbing and drifting southwest. Although prevailing winds were from the west, a wind at 10,000 feet was recorded from the north, complicating the assessment. Investigators concluded it was "possibly a balloon," but the possibility of an unidentified phenomenon was not ruled out. The report included no photographs, and the observer was a civilian.
The object remained visible at the time of the report, suggesting it was not a quickly disappearing object. The description of bobbing and light behavior supported the balloon hypothesis, although the lack of precise weather and altitude data limited a definitive evaluation. This case, like many from the era, reflects the difficulty of distinguishing between natural objects and unexplained phenomena.
