🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A witness in Arkansas described an object that changed shape over a period of more than one and a half hours, transitioning from oval to flat and then to diamond. Although no photos were taken, the observer noted that the object appeared larger than a star and had a visible ring at times, along with a red light on the bottom. The object moved slowly toward the south, leaving a white smoke trail each time it moved. Investigators concluded it was likely the star Spica, which was high in the sky in the southern direction. The duration of the sighting and the astronomical position of Spica at the time support this theory.
Spica, a bright star in the constellation Virgo, is one of the most luminous in the night sky and its position could explain the sighting. The report data, along with the lack of sound and the object's apparent stillness at times, support the theory that it was an astronomical observation. Despite the detailed description of the object, there was no conclusive evidence that it was a UFO or a weather balloon. The duration of the sighting, over an hour and a half, ruled out the possibility of a plane or a common balloon.
