🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1956, an operator at the Patterson AFB tower in Ohio reported a red object stationary at around 3,000 feet. The observation lasted 10 minutes, with the object located 10-15 miles away. Initially unexplained, the ATIC confirmed it matched a weather balloon with a red parachute launched at that time. Winds from the west and northwest indicated the balloon would be exactly where the observer reported.
The Air Force technical report includes a detailed questionnaire about the object's appearance, movement, and weather conditions. Although the witness did not identify it as a balloon, meteorological data and the launch location confirmed it was a weather balloon. This case is an example of how UFO reports often resolve when cross-referenced with scientific data and official records.
