Summary

In September 1956, a factory worker in Ellwood, Pennsylvania, observed a cube-shaped object measuring three feet on each side for 61 minutes. The witness saw it with the naked eye and through 16x50 binoculars, describing how it ascended and moved northeast. Despite its unusual appearance, investigators concluded it was likely a balloon. The duration of the sighting, along with the object's behavior, pointed toward a conventional explanation. There was no noise or visible exhaust, which initially made identification difficult.

The official assessment of the case noted that weather conditions and the extended duration of the sighting were consistent with a balloon. Although no photos were taken and radar wasn't used, the witness's testimony was detailed and coherent. This case, like many from the era, was logged under Project 10073, an initiative that collected information on unidentified flying objects. Ultimately, there was not enough evidence to consider it an unexplained phenomenon.
