In October 1956, an 18-year-old in Crane, Indiana, reported seeing a glowing red or amber object about 40 feet in diameter at 75-100 feet in the air. The report was considered suspicious due to the young man's father having reported a UFO less than a month earlier, suggesting possible psychological influence. There were no radar confirmations or additional sightings, complicating the evaluation. The local naval depot investigated, but no conclusive evidence was found.
A month later, in November, another report described a bright object changing colors, seen by several people. The investigation concluded it was likely the planet Mars, whose appearance was intensified by unusual atmospheric conditions. Observers mistook it for a UFO due to its brightness and color changes, phenomena explainable by extreme weather. These cases illustrate how psychological and environmental factors can influence the perception of celestial phenomena.
