Summary

In October 1956, a U.S. Air Force officer in Presque Isle, Maine, observed a bright object in the sky. The report describes a round, orange-red object with a tail stretching behind it, similar to a meteor. The witness saw it for two to three seconds, describing its fast movement toward the east. Although initially thought to be a UFO, investigators concluded it was a meteor, given its appearance and trajectory.

The report includes weather data and the exact location of the observer, who was a combat pilot. At the time, there were other aerial activities in the area, such as B-47 planes dropping chaff and a weather balloon launched by the Caribou station. Despite initial confusion, later analyses supported the hypothesis that the object was an astronomical phenomenon, not an unknown object. The case was closed without further investigation.
