Summary

In March 1957, a U.S. Air Force pilot reported an object that appeared as a white flash with a reddish trail. The sighting occurred near Dayton, Ohio, and lasted between three and five seconds. The object was moving from west to east and emitted enough light to illuminate the cockpit of his C-46 aircraft for two to three seconds. Although the pilot did not take photos, the characteristics of the object and its rapid disappearance led investigators to conclude it was likely a fireball or meteor.

The pilot's description, along with the duration of the sighting and the object's trajectory, matched typical features of a luminous meteor. Additionally, the report notes that the weather was clear and cold, supporting the theory that the phenomenon was of natural origin. Despite the pilot not identifying the object as a balloon, aircraft, or any other known artifact, investigators concluded it was probably an astronomical event. This case was considered alongside another report from Dayton, reinforcing the idea that both testimonies referred to the same event.
