Summary

In March 1957, a civilian in San Antonio, Texas, observed a bright object that appeared like a large star. Initially white and very luminous, the object turned pink as the sun set. According to the report, the object remained stationary before rising and disappearing. A "skyhook" balloon had been launched 16 minutes prior to the sighting. Investigators concluded that the observation could be due to sunlight reflecting off the balloon. Although the report does not explicitly mention a UFO, the phenomenon initially seemed unusual.

The atmosphere of the time, filled with numerous unexplained sightings, added an air of mystery to each report. However, in this case, the most plausible explanation pointed to a natural phenomenon. The report was shared with several military units, including the 33rd Air Division, for analysis. Despite the lack of photographs or radar data, the witness's testimony and the temporal coincidence with the balloon launch provided a clear direction for the investigation.
