🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A white object with a red halo was observed in Ogden, Utah, in 1957. It moved from east to west, stopped, made a 90-degree turn, and continued south. It was seen visually and via ground radar for 10 to 15 minutes. The description and context suggest it was a weather balloon.
The CONAD Forecast Center reported that a balloon had escaped from Las Vegas, Nevada, and was over the sighting area. This balloon was trailing a 100-foot steel cable, matching the observations. Although initially considered as an aircraft or astronomical phenomenon, the conclusion clearly points to a balloon as the cause of the sighting.
