🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1957, near Eglin AFB in Florida, two civilian observers reported an object that initially appeared to be a drag parachute from a B-47. The object, a dull aluminum-colored shape with little reflectivity, moved erratically. At one point, it was estimated to be traveling at speeds of Mach 2 or 3. The observers saw it for fifteen seconds, enough time to notice its sudden acceleration and unusual trajectory. Despite initial confusion, officials concluded it could be an optical phenomenon related to the plane’s turbulence, though the possibility of an unknown object was not ruled out.
The observers, considered reliable and experienced in the area, could not identify the object with certainty. The air base documented the incident as part of its intelligence protocol, but officials concluded it was not of significant importance. Nonetheless, the report details the exact weather conditions and location of the sighting, making it an interesting document for researchers of unidentified aerial phenomena from the era.
