🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
An arrow-shaped object was observed in San Angelo, Texas, on May 13, 1957. The witness, a civilian who was unemployed, described an elongated object about 60 feet long, with a pointed nose, black fins, and a black smoke trail. The sound it emitted resembled a jet but was higher-pitched. Although the observer ruled out a conventional aircraft, investigators considered it could be a high-speed plane or rocket. The sighting lasted only 4 seconds, limiting the details gathered. The official report concluded no definitive identification, though balloon or astronomical explanations were dismissed.
The witness, familiar with aircraft from military experience, compared the object to a Nike Ajax missile but noted it was much larger. Weather conditions were excellent, with visibility over 20 miles, and no flights in the area matched the description. Despite doubts about the witness’s credibility due to his unemployment, the report didn’t completely rule out a real aerial object. The brief observation and lack of photographic evidence left the case ambiguous.
