🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1957, a civilian in Springfield, Missouri, reported seeing a luminous object that appeared to be a falling star. The object, described as round and the size of a grapefruit, changed color from white to light green while leaving a trail three times its length. The witness reported that the object seemed to explode and vanished within two to three seconds. The observation was recorded as an astronomical event, suggesting military authorities considered the most plausible explanation to be a bright meteor.
The report includes weather details and wind conditions at various altitudes, helping to contextualize the sighting. Although no photographs were taken, the police officer's testimony was enough to classify the event as a meteor. This entry is part of the Project 10073 records, a Cold War-era investigation into unidentified aerial phenomena.
