Summary

In September 1976, a pilot from British European Airways observed a bright and mysterious light during a flight from Moscow to London. At around 33,000 feet, near the border of Lithuania, he saw a single, stationary light resembling a sodium vapor lamp, with a yellowish hue. The light remained visible for 10 to 15 minutes, approximately 10 to 15 miles away and 5 to 6,000 feet below the aircraft. It was so intense that it illuminated the top of a lower cloud layer, creating a glowing effect. The pilot communicated with the crew over the intercom, expressing concern about the light's presence.

The pilot attempted to get information from Soviet authorities, but he received a negative response suggesting he should not ask questions. The light disappeared as the plane moved away from its location. Although no official identification was provided, the incident was documented by U.S. intelligence, highlighting the interest in unexplained aerial phenomena during the Cold War.
