Summary

A witness in Miami, Florida, reported three lights very close together, traveling in a trail formation. The sighting occurred on May 28, 1957, at 00:34 UTC, and lasted between 2 and 3 seconds. Observers described the lights as intense and round, so close that a dime could have covered all three. No sound or visible trail was detected, ruling out a conventional aircraft. Although a jet was present in the area, officials concluded the phenomenon was likely an astronomical meteor. The clear sky and absence of clouds supported this interpretation, although no photos or radar were used to confirm.

MacDill Air Force Base in Florida submitted a detailed report to Colorado Springs and other air intelligence centers. It was noted that the sighting occurred at dusk, which could have altered the perception of the objects' size and distance. Although a high-speed jet was considered, no conclusive evidence was found. Officer Frank J. Seidl, in charge of the direction center, suggested the lights could have been navigation lights from a jet, but the official report classified it as an astronomical meteor.
