A 37-year-old man in Portsmouth, Virginia, spotted a silver disk-shaped object on June 11, 1957. The witness, who worked in an electronics repair department, observed the object for 10 minutes, describing it as a flat disk. At the time, he was also watching a civilian and a military aircraft flying northeast. The object appeared southwest of Portsmouth and then turned northwest, disappearing into the sunlight. The observer had recently undergone an eye exam involving a spinning disk, which might have influenced his perception. His wife and 9-year-old son also saw the object.
Cape Charles Air Force Station sent a report to the Air Intelligence Command in Colorado Springs. Although a weather balloon was considered, investigators concluded it was probably an aircraft. The area had regular air traffic, and the observer mentioned seeing other planes, including one unidentified. No photos were taken, radar wasn't used, and there were no abnormal weather conditions to explain other flying objects.
