🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1957, a control tower operator on Wake Island heard a buzzing sound similar to a jet aircraft but saw no object. Two bluish-white vapor trails were observed forming and dissipating rapidly, with an estimated speed of 600 mph. The trails were about 200 feet long and 12-14 degrees wide. The report concluded they were contrails, though the responsible aircraft was not identified.
This case is interesting due to the detailed description and the witness's experience, having over eleven years in control tower operations. Despite not seeing the object, the precise description of the contrails and their rapid behavior suggests a reliable observation. The official report classified it as contrails, but other possibilities were not ruled out.
