🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1957, a couple in Gardena, California, observed a shiny object the size of a half-dollar coin. The object was seen for nine minutes, moving upward and out of sight. Although the possibility of a weather balloon was considered, it was not confirmed. The duration and trajectory of the sighting caused some alarm, leading to an air interception attempt, which was unsuccessful. The lack of photographs and the coincidence with balloon launches in the area added mystery to the case.
Military authorities reviewed the report and concluded it could have been a balloon, though no specific launch was linked to the sighting. The official report mentions several balloon launches in the region, but none matched the exact time of the observation. Despite investigations, the object was not definitively identified, and the case remains unsolved. This incident reflects the confusion and interest generated by UFO sightings in the 1950s.
