🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1957, a witness in Amarillo, Texas observed a round object the size of a pea and silver in color. The object appeared to follow a B-36 aircraft before stopping and ascending vertically. The observation was made visually from the ground, without photographs or radar involved. A civilian weather observer and the reporting officer both believed it was likely a weather balloon, as one had been launched around the same time. Despite the seemingly conventional conclusion, the object's unusual behavior and description generated some curiosity.
The sighting location was Amarillo, Texas, and the report was submitted by the Commander of the 688th Air Reconnaissance Squadron. Weather conditions were clear with warm and moderate winds at different altitudes. Although the report concluded it was likely a balloon, the object's unusual description and movement add a layer of mystery to the case. These kinds of reports, often resolved with earthly explanations, are valuable for understanding how sightings were recorded during the era.
