🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1957, an observer in Hartford, Connecticut, reported a bright round object moving west to east. He described it as ten times larger than a star, with a brilliant white color. He observed it for 45 minutes using binoculars and confirmed no other witnesses were present. Weather conditions were excellent with unlimited visibility. Although initially considered a balloon, the official conclusion linked it to the "Moby Dick" balloon launched in California. This case is an example of how UFO reports often relate to atmospheric or astronomical objects.
The Air Intelligence Information Report (ATIC) classified the incident as likely a balloon, given the description and the correlation with sightings in the region. The report includes precise details such as the exact time (2330Z), location, and an estimated altitude. Despite the lack of photographs or radar, the report was distributed to several military units. This case reflects the routine analysis of sightings during the Cold War, where each report was rigorously examined to rule out real threats or known explanations.
