Summary

In August 1957, a witness in Silver Spring, Maryland, observed a luminous "V" formation of seven objects. Each object appeared as bright as the head of a pin, and the entire formation was estimated to be half the size of the moon. The witness claimed they were at 100,000 feet altitude and traveling at 1,200 mph. The formation remained visible for 4 minutes and 30 seconds without making any sound. Interestingly, the witness noted that the sky's light refracted in a transparent circular field around the formation, adding an enigmatic touch to the event. However, authorities questioned the reliability of the report, as such altitude and speed estimates seemed implausible.

The Air Force concluded the source was unreliable. The witness, who had previously reported UFO sightings, was challenged for the impossibility of accurately estimating such altitudes and speeds by eye. Additionally, the description of the formation and optical phenomenon did not easily fit conventional explanations like balloons or aircraft. Despite this, the case was filed without a clear resolution, leaving open the possibility of something unusual in the sky that night.
