🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
An Air Force officer, 1st Lt. John R. Greene, observed a bright object very close to the Moon in Palm Springs, California, on August 31, 1957. The object was brighter than the Moon itself and maintained its constant glow for eight minutes before suddenly disappearing. Although initially considered a UFO, it was later identified as the occultation of the planet Saturn by the Moon, a rare astronomical phenomenon that explained the sudden loss of light. The officer contacted astronomers and scientists for an explanation, but there was no immediate consensus on its nature. The case reflects the confusion and mystery surrounding unexplained aerial sightings during that era.
