🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1957, a soldier in the Panama Canal Zone reported a rapidly moving luminous object at low altitude. The witness, Private William T. Hannon, described a cylindrical, phosphorescent object, roughly the size of a C-54 fuselage, that appeared suddenly between the hills and disappeared with an erratic upward motion. It made no noise and was visible for 5 to 10 seconds. Although the initial report classified it as a possible astronomical phenomenon, such as a bolide, there was no radar confirmation or additional witnesses.
The official investigation suggested the sighting could be related to meteorological phenomena, such as bolides or weather balloons. However, the detailed description and lack of sound or clear explanation raised questions. The report also noted the absence of radar contacts or simultaneous sightings, making a definitive evaluation difficult. While a natural explanation was considered, the case remains intriguing due to the clarity of the testimony and the inability to completely rule out unconventional explanations.
